Printed versions of the official publication can be purchased from the National Office for $12 per copy for shipping and handling ($8 per copy for a mini Rule Book). USMS will strive to process and fulfill orders as soon as possible. Orders for the 2025 rule book will be available in the beginning of January.

IRS Tax Filing Deadline

For LMSCs with gross receipts of $50,000 or less, you can file Form 990N which is called an "e-Postcard" and is done entirely online. Only a handful of LMSCs with gross receipts of more than $50,000 must file either the form 990EZ or the full form 990. The 990N consists of eight questions and is very easy to file. It requires no financial data, so you can file it any time. Rule Book Amendment Deadlines - Long Distance, Legislation and Rules

Rule Book AmendmentsUSMS considers changes to the USMS Code of Regulations and Rules of Competition on an annual basis in accordance with article 601.2. For more details, review the process overview of submitting proposed amendments.
All proposed changes must be submitted by June 10 to be considered by the House of Delegates at the Annual Meeting. Early submissions are highly encouraged.

  • Proposed changes to Part 1: Swimming Rules or the Glossary must be submitted to the Chair of the USMS Rules Committee.
  • Proposed changes to Part 3: Open Water and Long Distance Swimming Rules or the Glossary must be submitted to the Chair of the Long Distance Swimming Committee.
  • Proposed changes to the Organizing Principles, Glossary, Part 2, Part 4, Part 5, or Part 6 must be submitted to the chair of the Legislation Committee.
    • Proposed changes to the geographic boundaries for Zones and LMSCs in Part 5 must be submitted by an LMSC to the chair of the Legislation Committee.

Captain Ransom J Arthur MD Award
This award is given in honor of Captain Ransom J. Arthur, M.D., who, by his sacrifice, perseverance, and dedication to improving the health of adults through swimming, established the Masters Swimming program in the United States. The award is given annually to the USMS volunteer who has done the most to further the objectives of Masters Swimming, generally over an extended period of time.
